that's some amazing video work - i wonder how much of that footage was from the original film (that's Fred Astaire for you young kids who don't know). if you didn't know what the original video was, this wouldn't be very impressive. but having seen it, i'm very impressed with the video hacking they did. WOW *****
ari (guest) - April 14, 2006, 22:11
That's Gene Kelly, not Fred Astaire.

Actually, flyboy, this was the original but they thought people wouldn't like it back then and so they video altered it.. man that took a long to do back then... Now they finally released the original dance. :)

I was at the production of this commercal for Golf GTI as Jib Grip (i moved the camera crane) they used 3 dancers who all had watersuits underneath and they all had to wear prosthetics so the post production lads could edit Gene Kellys face in.
All of the pavement was foam so it absored the water into a drain to be reused incase we needed to do retakes, also a safe landing for the 3rd dancer who flipped.
Was filmed at Shepperton Studios with a total of 22 crew including me :)
Turned out really good when i saw it for the first time, Well worth the effort.

"i wonder how much of that footage was from the original film (that's Fred Astaire for you young kids who don't know)" None of it is, and it's Gene Kelly, durr. Also, a BMW 535i is not considered an M model, the only M models are M3, M5, and M6.

For those of you interested in knowing, the music is a shortened version of Mint Royale's "Singing in the rain".

I'm sure Gene Kelly could have done some good modern dancing if he was still alive.
